Natural Sciences - Personal Knowledge
How has your study of a group 4 subject affected the knowledge you employ in your day-to-day dealings with the world?
My group 4 subject is sports, exercise and health science. Through the year, we have gone through the syllabus from learning the parts of the body (muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints etc), nutrition and dietary requirements for different body compositions with level of exertion, how energy is created and used in the muscles with specifics in anaerobic and aerobic exercise and seeing exercise movements at a cellular level with how muscles contract. Day-to-day this constantly affects the knowledge I employ with a range of differenct activities and even the most basic components of human life such as eating and simple movements. When eating anything, I immediately think of macronutrients, miconutrients and the different energy and sufficiency that the food meets. When sprinting to class when I am late, I am thinking of the cellular process that is happening inside my body to provide me with the energy to complete anaerobic activities. Sports science encompasses every capability of the human body and entirely focuses how I see the simple movements in life such as getting up out of bed; I see a machine with different ticks and cogs, working 24/7, to make every movement possible. I now visualize and have a great understanding of the body I am in, and how it takes me to new places every day. I have an immense appreciation for the human body and all of the incredible things it possesses and is capable to do, as even in this subject, we learn about Olympic athletes and people that use their potential to the extreme. Sports science has enabled me to have great understanding of every single thing I do and be able to apply knowledge behind it and know the process.
